Nowadays, all the states in Africa was regarded has developing states. None of African state has emerged has developed state. The evil they have done to our economy today is what we are reaping today.

United State was colonized also by the Great Britain accepted,the same country that colonized Nigeria, but my question is, are we Africans colonized the same way Americans are colonized by Britain? This has remained a debatable issue. Why are we so backward in terms of economic development? Africans are blessed with both human and natural resources, why are we failing economically? The Nobel peace award giving to the number one citizen of the world shall be a priority to us and we must imbibe the spirit of doing things in the right way. In the other words, let’s now look at Barrack Obama has our mentor because he is an African and he have the same African spirit in him. Let’s produce a leader like president Obama to rule one of the African States. We don’t have to over look this award giving to him. Let us follow his foot step in Africa. The only reason why the two religious groups normally have problem was simply because the Muslim worshiper refers to JESUS CHRIST as just a mere servant of God. My questions are; if JEUS CHRIST is the only way to God, why Muslims worshipers ignored HIM? At least Muslim worshipers believe in God, what is going on with idol worshipers because both Christian and Muslim brethren believe that God is the God, and you must not replace God with any other things. In the other word “DO NOT WORSHIP IDOL” according to God. Although, we are experiencing changes in idol worshipers, some are giving their lives to JESUS CHRIST everyday and living meaningful lives. It will be a painful things if someone come to this world and leaves without any impact on earth. What are you doing for the kingdom of God today? Are you praying for the increment or reduction of people in the kingdom?           Big Brother Revolution4 show, has been so dull to me. I must confess people are complaining about the so called show. Many people ask why the tension on the show was too high. CONSEQUENCES OF LONGER TIME IN WORK FORCE

       Why can't the person who can afford to retire....retire? Allow other people a chance to move up and in turn others to fill the positions behind them. If all these people would retire then the job market would be tighter, wages would be higher and we would have more leverage with companies in making demands for better benefits and health care. Damn...the people that want to retire can't while the people who can won't. Do you want to die on the job and gather cob webs?

        If I could retire, I assure you there are a lot of things I can find to do with my spare time besides work for someone else. Start my own business, find a part-time job such as working online which I believe that I can earn much more money to sustain myself and get out of the way for the next generation behind me. 

I see some old geezer types that get away with murder on the job, too. Often not working a full day, talking to their buddies or serving the internet while the rest of us slave away as if they are privileged. Some even take naps at their desk while others look away and pretend it's not happening. I wish I could nap when I felt like it at work without consequences!



        There are disadvantages and challenges you will face while you choose to work above you normal retirement age.

(1) You work until you have a heart attack or stroke and are carried out on a stretcher with a sheet over your head.

(2) You work until you are too sick to work and then die of starvation or exposure since you have no money to sustain yourself.

(3) You work until you are sick of working and you commit suicide.

(4) The younger generation after your generation will have limited work to do and it will definitely affect your kids

 

    To sum up, if every worker chooses to work above retirement age, and government choose not to intervene, things will definitely go wrong. The next generation is facing this problem nowadays, especially in developing countries, where they have a very high record of unemployment can simply be refer back to their present working individual, majority of the workers in developing countries were working above their retirement age, and the youth are facing the consequences. Government should do some thing about this evil act by worker who chooses to remain in service till they give up the ghost, because this evil decision is affecting our economy negatively.

CBN Ready To Sell Five Bailed Banks 100% To Foreign Investors

CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi said in London yesterday that the apex bank was ready to sell Union Bank, Intercontinental, Oceanic, Afribank and FinBank, 100 per cent to foreign investors. But one of the foreign investors who spoke to Vanguard at about 8 pm yesterday on phone from London said that a pre-selection of the foreign investors was done by the CBN in July even before the announcement of August 14.

He stated that at the time of speaking with the paper the CBN team was meeting with each of those pre selected foreign investor whom he described as representing the interest of some powerful political power brokers in the country.
Sanusi who was quoted by Reuters while speaking in London at the conference the CBN governor called to reassure counter-party banks and foreign investors about the bailout said that he would not “stand in the way of any foreign banks taking a 100 per cent stake in the five Nigerian institutions”. The CBN also said that the five banks will be run as going concerns until new investors can be found to recapitalise them.


According to Reuters ,, the CBN governor said that “The banking sector is key to Nigeria’s economic prospects and that the nation will see economic growth of five percent this year, rising to double-digit rates from 2010 as its banking sector strengthens again after a $2.6 billion bailout.


Addressing international banks, lenders and rating agencies in London, Sanusi said that Nigeria economy was likely to expand 5 per cent in the second half of 2009 after growing at a similar pace between January and June. “I have no doubts that by 2010-2011 we will be looking at double digit growth in Nigeria. We were growing at 6 per cent without electricity, without peace in the Niger Delta,” Sanusi said, referring to unrest in the country’s oil heartland. “We are a country of 150 million people, but with only 23 million bank accounts. So there is a lot of room for growth.”

The Central Bank two weeks ago injected N400 billion into five banks and sacked their senior management, saying lax governance had left them so weakly capitalised that they posed a systemic risk.


According to him private sector credit outstripped the entire spending of the country’s federal, state and local governments last year and this year banks are expected to provide much of the government’s estimated N1.6 trillion borrowing needs.

Sanusi’s bailout, just two months after he took office at the helm of the regulator, shocked corporate Nigeria and initially panicked financial markets, sending the naira currency lower and triggering a stock market sell-off. S&P cut Nigeria’s speculative sovereign long-term foreign currency credit rating one notch to B-plus from BB-minus last week, citing the costly bank bailout and falling oil revenues.

“We have peace in the Niger Delta, inflation has been coming down. If the downgrade had come 3-4 months back it would have been more understandable,” he said.

Before the bank bailout he forecast that Nigeria’s economy would likely expand by 5 per cent this year, but analysts in a Reuters poll this week predicted a 3.6 percent growth. He told the London conference that non-oil GDP growth should be “robust” at above 6 percent this year, and projected an inflation rate of 9 percent at the end of the year.

Nigeria’s consumer inflation dipped to 11.1 percent year-on-year in July from 11.2 percent the previous month. Sanusi cut interest rates to 6 percent from 8 percent in July, following his first monetary policy meeting as governor. He also said Nigeria would get $2.8 billion in special drawing rights from the International Monetary Fund this year”.

It will be recalled that on March 23 this year Vanguard reported that Anti consolidation forces have regrouped with the hope of dissembling the banks and forcing a take over of the top five banks in the country. The grand plan by the group is to cause panic and uncertainty in the industry and make the target banks look unsafe for depositors.


Their aim, Vanguard gathered, is to cause loss of public confidence in the banking industry and compel the Federal Government to move in by injecting funds. Further, they ultimately plan to instigate government to take equity holdings in the targeted banks.

Vanguard investigations revealed that the group at work is made up of former bank owners who lost out during the consolidation exercise, a powerful clique in the present government, and some aggrieved persons in three of the six geopolitical zones in the country who felt left out in the consolidation exercise.

Presidency sources disclosed that those who felt left out in the consolidation exercise are grieved and are up in arms to recoup what they felt they lost during Obasanjo years.

Part of the plan hatched by the group is to ensure that incumbent Central Bank governor, Professor Charles Soludo does not get a second term. The plan is also to ensure that what ever gains that consolidation had is discredited. This it was learnt was meant to force the President to act quickly in matter of appointment of a successor to Soludo as they anticipate that the president’s slow move may scuttle their dreams and cause the renewal of Soludo appointment for a second term.

The group second game plan is to make Nigerian banks look un safe in the eye of the banking public. They have perfected their game by spreading rumour that some categories of banks are unsound and are on the verge of collapse.

The group is using this means to make depositors panic and undertake massive withdrawal of funds from the targeted banks in attempt to cause liquidity problem in the bank. In that state they hope to cause a take over by the government which may buy a stake in the bank and later sell to these privileged group who may be appointed in the interim into the board of these banks.

There were mistakes made, like all humans. As analyzed by the great banker and entrepreneur, Atedo Peter side, in a text he sent to me last Saturday: “The sad truth is that, anywhere in the world, relying continuously on liquidity support from your regulator (Central Bank of Nigeria in this case) as a ‘lender of last resort’ is a dangerous game. If the ‘game’ continues for too long, your ‘liquidity’ problem will become synonymous with insolvency and as CEO of that institution you become very vulnerable because the regulator will inevitably wield his axe someday”. He is right.But I insist that Sanusi, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, went overboard and certainly beyond his mandate. He apparently did not weigh his hasty actions against the general interest of our country as well as the historical dialectics of our nation. He would have realized the problems of Nigeria were far greater than that of those five bank executives. Scapegoatism has never worked in Nigeria. He should look back at the recent past when a few governors were being impeached in the middle of the night. And some Nigerians hailed the action. I will continue to say that we can’t set a whole village on fire just to catch a few rats. What have we gained in concrete terms? Nothing drastic has been done to investigate and prosecute the former President, the multitude of governors, ministers, legislators (States and Federal) special advisers, board members, and others who have served these past ten years. The same fate shall befall this crusade. I have three reasons for my assertion. The present composition, and the very origin, of this administration, makes it impossible for any meaningful war to be fought and won. The second is that only a benevolent and visionary dictator, and clear-headed revolutionaries, can truly fight the cancer that corruption has become in Nigeria, because nearly everyone is guilty. Even the elder statesman, Alhaji Maitama Sule said that much last week.
My third theory is that the likes of Nuhu Ribadu, Nasir el-Rufai, Oby Ezekwesili, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and company, would only be able to push their revolutionary ideas when they are able to acquire executive powers at the very top. The Nigerian State is run by a few oligarchs who are intricately intertwined, and too difficult to disentangle. Sanusi would soon be frustrated like Ribadu.I believe Sanusi was too much in a haste to show his bite. If he was not in a hurry, he would have audited all the banks at once. And award penalties without favour or discrimination. The criminalization of a few people, when less than half of the banks have been audited is, to say the least, reckless and disastrous. There was no indication that he spent sufficient time with the indicted MDs to pursue the possibility of redemption. The same Sanusi who told us at home that he would give the banks back to their owners if they can meet some stringent conditions went abroad to gleefully announce that the banks were up for sale. He must have been encouraged by the applause he got from the kill-and-go choir.What stopped Sanusi from publishing the complete list of all debtors in all the banks? Why didn’t he throw all these debtors into jail the same way he dealt with the Bank MDs? Why is the Federal Government diverting our attention from the lack of progress in the investigation and prosecution of so many members of its ruling party? And in truth, it is an established fact that the government is a pathological debtor, and one of the veritable sources of the huge debt portfolio of some of the banks and businesses. Why did we not adopt the less destructive measures of the Americans?The global economic crisis was largely due to the subprime mortgage lending fiasco of the US economy, where banks greedily invested their deposits as loans to the mortgage sector. This was the same way our Nigerian banks made the terminal mistake of over-exposing themselves to the Stock Market. The higher the return in any business, the higher the risk. The crisis in America nearly wiped out the capital base of some of the biggest financial icons, such as Citibank, Bank of America, Goldman Sach. Also, top European Banks like UBS, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, and Barclays were affected.Their home governments rose to the challenges by rolling out workable packages, under strict terms, but without our own theatre of the absurd. Foreigners were not invited to take over the banks, and their assets were not sold off, like it is being threatened in Nigeria. Those foreign banks have since recovered and are bouncing back to profitability, in an atmosphere devoid of rancor and gangsterism. Finally, I'm not a lawyer, but I have a fair knowledge of Jurisprudence. There are three principles that we must consider. The first is NEMO JUDEX IN CAUSA SUA (A man shall not be a judge in his own cause). It is difficult to see Sanusi as a total and unbiased umpire.
The second is NEMO DAT QUOD NON HABET (You can’t give out what you don’t own!), which is what Sanusi has done by sacking the MDs. And by dishing out their banks to outsiders of his choice, without making recommendations to their board, or giving them warnings and deadlines; by harassing them and their homes with forces of coercion, by freezing their personal accounts, by publishing confidential bank statements of clients etc, he has already convicted them! The damage is total and almost irreversible in a country like ours, even if any of them is cleared tomorrow. In fact, what Sanusi has breached is the third principle of AUDI ALTERAN PARTEM RULE (The right to fair-hearing) , and some of us are too forward-looking to allow such lawlessness to stick. Sanusi has combined the duties of a Complainant, Prosecutor, Advocate for the Prosecutor, Star witness, the Bailiff, and the Gaoler. It is very tragic.
